Is Ultra-Violet (UV) protection a part of your everyday routine? Sun lotions, swim shirts, hats, … and sunglasses are a must if it is! All About Eyes is once again celebrating the annual National Sunglasses Day on June 27 this year, sponsored by The Vision Council. Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
Did you know that exposure to direct sunlight increases your risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and eye cancers? This is why it’s so important to shade your eyes, not just in the summer when the sun is at its strongest, but all year-round.
In summer, people spend more time outdoors — sunlight and fresh air are wonderful things — but sometimes folks forget to protect their eyes when boating, swimming, or playing. Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection, along with a wide-brimmed hat, will go a long way toward preventing unwanted issues down the road!
